Nickel Plate Road No. 639 is a class H-6e 2-8-2 "Mikado" type steam locomotive built in 1923 by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio.

No. 639 was used for freight service on the Nickel Plate Road.

The locomotive was retired from service in 1959 and it was placed in storage.

It is now on display in Miller Park in Bloomington, IL.

  • It was donated to the City of Bloomington by the New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad in 1959, having racked up some 3,000,000 miles on the road.
  • When she's on display her tender was switched with another NKP steam engine #587, because the tender was in need of repair and 587's original tender was in good mechanical condition.
  • This is one of an order of thirty built by Lima in 1923 to haul freight trains.
