No. 4443 is featured in "Pal Joey" (1957)

Southern Pacific No. 4443 is a class GS-4 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotive built by the Lima locomotive works in 1941.

The locomotive was used for passenger service for the Southern Pacific railroad.

In the 1950's it double-headed with the Southern Pacific No. 4449.

No. 4443 pulled one of the final steam excursions on the Southern Pacific in 1957 and then later it was retired.

No. 4443 was sold for scrap in 1958.


  • The locomotive used to be repaint from it's "Daylight" paint scheme to it's black scheme.
  • In 1957 it was featured in "Pal Joey".
  • In 1949 it was being shunted by Southern Pacific No. 1756 for restoration.
  • It also occasional did freight service.
